Welcome to St. Jude Parish in Gobles, MI
We are glad you are visiting our website.
We hope you join us for Mass, too!
Sunday Mass 9:30 AM
Mass on Sundays at 9:30 am Eastern Time - canceled until further notice
HAPPY MEMORIAL WEEKEND. We welcome our visitors who come to St. Jude’s during the summer months. It is wonderful to have you with us. It is always nice to see familiar faces and to welcome new ones.
IN THIS TIME in which we are not able to encounter Christ in the assembly or the Eucharist, we always have the opportunity to encounter Christ in the vulnerable, even in ways that protect ourselves and those we wish to help from further risk. A meal or groceries left on a doorstep, a contribution to a fund for unemployed restaurant workers, a check-in with an isolated older person or a friend who has suddenly become a homeschooling parent—we can all do something, for someone, in this time.
BISHOP BRADLEY has announced public masses will begin on May 27th. Our first Mass at St. Jude’s will be on Pentecost Sunday May 31st Seating will be limited during the level one phase. Please refer to the diocesan guidelines for more information.
ALL PUBLIC MASSES AND EUCHARISTIC celebrations are suspended through May 27, 2020. The faithful are strongly encouraged to participate in Masses that are broadcast via television and internet, including our own Diocesan live-stream Mass, and to make a devout Spiritual Communion. A list of local live stream Masses and prayer times can be found at diokzoo.org/live.
FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION and Mass is on June 5th. Adoration begins at 5;30 pm with Benediction at 6:30 pm then Mass at 7 pm. Give a few moments of your time to be with Jesus, present in the Eucharist. “Because Christ is truly present in the Eucharist, adoration must be a Catholic’s primary attitude toward the Blessed Sacrament at Mass as well as when praying before the Blessed Sacrament.
DEACON JOHN will be retiring at the end of June. He will be greatly missed and will always be in our hearts
THANK YOU for sending your donations to the parish. Due to your generosity we are able to cover basic monthly expenses. God bless your generosity. Deacon John
Just a slight change in our office hours. We are no longer coming in on Thursdays. Still if you need anything please do not hesitate to call.
May 19, 2020
Dear St. Jude Parishioners,
May the peace and joy of our Risen Lord be with you.
Back in March when I announced that I would be retiring at the end of June, who would have predicted that we would have spent these past eight weeks staying at home. I have certainly missed greeting you each week and serving at our Sunday Mass.
I have some good news. Bishop Bradley has given permission for our priests to start having public Masses starting on May 27th. Our first Mass will be on Pentecost Sunday, May 31st. I am working with Fr. Joseph and a small committee to plan on what that will mean for St. Jude. It is clear that things will be a bit different as we try to keep everyone safe. Bishop Bradley has given guidelines for the faithful which I am including for you. The plan is to open in levels. At level one, there can only be 25% of our seating capacity allowed at our regular 9:30 am Sunday Mass. For us, it means that only 50 can be present.
The Bishop has extended the dispensation from attending Sunday Mass through September 6th. While some of you may be hesitant to attend Mass with a larger group of the faithful, Fr. Joseph is inviting you to attend an 8:00 am weekday liturgy Monday-Friday at St. Mary where attendance is much lower.
During this level 1 period there are several things you should be aware of:
I ask your understanding and cooperation as we navigate through these necessary changes.
If you choose not to join us at Church for whatever reason, I will continue to stay in contact with you either by posting things on our website, sending a letter or email or by a phone call. You are an important part of St. Jude. Please call the parish office if you need anything.
We have been asked to turn in our Operation Rice Bowl donations to the diocese. I ask if you have been holding on to your Rice Bowl, please send a check for that amount to the parish within the next couple of weeks so that I can send one parish check to the diocese. Please write in the memo line “Rice Bowl” so it is not confused with other donations that come in. Thank you.
One final note: I know during these days many things can make us anxious. One of these has been the question of who will be replacing me here at St. Jude. While I do not have an answer on that yet, rest assured that Bishop Bradley is working on it. I am hopeful that a decision will be made within the next month. Please keep Bishop in your prayers that the Holy Spirit will guide him in his decision making.
You remain in my thoughts and prayers. May God continue to bless you and keep you healthy and safe.
Your servant in Christ,
Deacon John Bodway
